Hospice Of The Carolina Foothills

Hospice of the Carolina Foothills was established so that individuals and families living with a terminal illness could live each day to the fullest — at home, pain free, surrounded by the love and compassion of family, caregivers and a team of professionals.

Members of the Hospice Team include the physician, nurses, chaplain, social workers, nursing assistants and volunteers. The team helps the individual and their family adapt to changes that accompany a life-limiting illness; affirms life by emphasizing care when cure is no longer possible; and brings hope to a hopeless situation by helping make every day the best it can be.

Founded in 1981, our non-profit agency has been a growing resource for children and adults in Polk County N.C. and upstate South Carolina.

Hospice services are available to persons who have been diagnosed with an end-stage illness and have a life expectancy of six months or less. Such an illness includes dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, cancer, liver failure, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, AIDS and other chronic diseases. Together with the individual, their family, caregivers and personal physician, the team develops an individualized care plan to manage pain and control other symptoms of the illness.

Help is also extended to family members who are struggling with the demands of caring for their loved one and may also be experiencing a range of emotions—sadness, denial, anger, confusion or despair.

Our services are available without regard to one’s ability to pay. The cost of Hospice is covered by Medicare/Medicaid and the individual’s private insurance. In cases where there is no hospice coverage, Hospice services can be covered through gifts to Hospice via memorial donations, annual contributions and fundraising efforts.

Hospice serves people in their homes as well as in five nursing facilities in North and South Carolina.

Hospice offers bereavement assistance following the death of a loved one in the form of support groups, seminars, educational materials and one-on-one grief counseling. These services are also available to anyone in the community who is grieving the loss of a loved one.
